OverView


Cryogenic steels for low temperature service steel alloy suitable for applications below 0 ℃. -196 ℃ can be used in the following, called ultra low temperature cryogenic steel or steel. Cold steel major should have the following properties: ① ductile - brittle transition temperature below the operating temperature; ② designed to meet the strength requirements; ③ using temperature stable organizational structure; ④ good weldability and formability; ⑤ some special purposes also requires extremely low permeability, cold shrink rate. Low temperature steel according to the crystal lattice type can generally be divided into bcc ferritic steels and lowtemperature fcc austeniticlow temperature steel two categories.

Classification

Ferritic cold steel into three categories according to ingredients

① carbon manganese steel

Lowcarbon manganese steel (C0.05 ~ 0.28%, Mn0.6 ~ 2%). So that Mn / C≈10, reducing the oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus and other harmful impurities, and some also add a small amount of aluminum, niobium, titanium, vanadium and other elements to grain refinement. Such steel lowest temperature of about -60 ℃.

② low-alloy steel

Low-alloy steel. There are low-nickel steel (Ni2 ~ 4%), manganese, nickel, molybdenum steel (Mn0.6 ~ 1.5%, Ni0.2 ~ 1.0%, Mo0.4 ~ 0.6%, C≤0.25%), nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel (Ni0 .7 ~ 3.0%, Cr0.4 ~ 2.0%, Mo0.2 ~ 0.6%, C≤0.25%). The intensity of these grades higher than the low-carbon steel, low temperature up to about -110 ℃. China developed several sections of low temperature nickel alloy as low 09Mn2V like.

③ the (high) steel

In (high) steel. There are 6% Ni steel, 9% Ni steel, 36% Ni steel, of which 9% Ni steel is used widely cryogenic steel. The use of such high-nickel steel temperatures as low as -196 ℃.

Application


Cold steel LPG cryogenic separation equipment, the vast majority of the lowest temperature of -110 ℃, individual equipment up to -150 ℃, respectively, low alloy steel, nickel steel 3 to 6% or 9% nickel steel. In the air separation plant, the minimum operating temperature of -196 ℃, the general use of 9% nickel steel or austenitic low temperature steel. Operating temperature of -253 ℃ of liquid hydrogen production, storage and transportation equipment, the operating temperature of liquid helium equipment -269 ℃, shall adopt the organizational structure of the low temperature stable austenitic steels. And some special devices such as superconducting magnets or superconducting motors, the following should be used in addition to a stable operating temperature of austenite, but also to maintain a very low permeability (μ) ≤1.01 or less) of steel species.

Some iron-nickel and nickel-based superalloys have a high temperature toughness as A-286, Inconel718, InconelX-750, also commonly used in high strength low-temperature equipment.
